Bitrot and atomic COWs: Inside “next-gen” filesystems | Ars Technica.

This is a really interesting article on the future of the file system: generally considered a really boring and often overlooked part of technology.

Why is it interesting? File systems dictate how our data is stored and how we access it. It also is our safety net against loosing precious data. Current file systems do a pretty average job at protecting our data.

A lot of work goes into file systems for mobile devices these days, so it’s nice to see something written on the high-end of the spectrum for power users.

Besides, new files systems with have “atomic COW snapshots”. Who doesn’t want that!?
